Edward John David Redmayne is an English actor born on January 6, 1982. He has won many important awards for his acting, including an Academy Award, a Tony Award, a British Academy Film Award, a Golden Globe Award, and two Olivier Awards. He is known for his roles in both theatre and films.
Redmayne started his acting career in London's West End theatre. He later performed on Broadway in New York. He gained wide recognition for his film roles, especially playing famous real-life people.

Early Life and School Days
Edward John David Redmayne was born in Westminster, London, on January 6, 1982. His mother, Patricia, ran a business that helped people move, and his father, Richard, worked in business finance. His great-grandfather, Sir Richard Redmayne, was an engineer who helped make mines safer.
From the age of 10, Eddie attended the Jackie Palmer Stage School. This is where he discovered his love for acting and singing. He went to several schools, including Eton College, where he was in the same year as Prince William. He then studied History of Art at Trinity College, Cambridge, and graduated in 2003.

On Stage: Theatre Roles
Redmayne first performed on stage in 2002 in a play called Twelfth Night. He quickly became known for his talent. In 2004, he won an award for "Outstanding Newcomer" for his role in The Goat, or Who Is Sylvia?.
In 2009, he starred in the play Red in London. For this role, he won the Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role. He then took the play to Broadway in New York, where he won a Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Play.
From 2021 to 2022, Redmayne returned to the stage as the Emcee in a new version of the musical Cabaret in London. He had played this role before when he was 17. His performance was highly praised, and he won another Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Musical. In 2024, he brought Cabaret to Broadway and was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical.
On Screen: Films and TV Shows
Redmayne first appeared on screen in 1998 in a TV show called Animal Ark. He later acted in TV miniseries like Tess of the d'Urbervilles and The Pillars of the Earth.
His first main film role was in Like Minds (2006). He became more widely known for playing Colin Clark in My Week with Marilyn (2011) and Marius Pontmercy in the musical film Les Misérables (2012).
In 2014, Redmayne played the famous scientist Stephen Hawking in the film The Theory of Everything. His performance was highly praised, and he won an Academy Award for Best Actor. Stephen Hawking himself said that Redmayne's portrayal was excellent.
In 2015, Redmayne starred in The Danish Girl, where he played a pioneering artist. His acting in this film also received strong praise.

Personal Life
Eddie Redmayne married Hannah Bagshawe on December 15, 2014. They have two children, a daughter and a son.
In 2015, he was given an award called the Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for his contributions to drama.
Redmayne is also involved in charity work. He has been an ambassador for the film education charity Into Film since 2014. Since 2015, he has supported the Motor Neurone Disease Association, a charity that helps people with the same illness that Stephen Hawking had. He also supports the Teenage Cancer Trust and Go Live Theatre Projects, which helps children and young people experience theatre.
