Rebecca Maria Hall (born on May 3, 1982) is a talented English actress and director. She first appeared on screen at age 10 in a TV show called The Camomile Lawn in 1992. Her father, Peter Hall, directed this show.

Rebecca started her professional acting on stage in 2002. She gained a lot of attention in 2006 with her role in the thriller film The Prestige. In 2008, she starred in the romantic comedy Vicky Cristina Barcelona, which earned her a nomination for a Golden Globe award.

She has acted in many different movies, including Frost/Nixon (2008), The Town (2010), and Iron Man 3 (2013). In 2016, critics praised her acting in the movie Christine. More recently, she appeared in the giant monster movies Godzilla vs. Kong (2021) and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (2024). Rebecca also directed her first movie, Passing, in 2021.

On British television, Rebecca won an award for her role in the miniseries Red Riding: 1974 in 2009. She was also nominated for another award for her performance in Parade's End in 2013.

Rebecca Hall's Early Life and School

Rebecca Hall was born in London on May 3, 1982. Her mother, Maria Ewing, was an American opera singer. Her father, Sir Peter Hall, was a famous English stage director who started the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Rebecca's mother had a mixed background. Her father was African-American and her mother was Dutch. Rebecca later learned more about her family history on a TV show called Finding Your Roots. She found out that her great-grandfather, John William Ewing, was born into slavery. After the American Civil War, he became an important person in the Black community in Washington, D.C.

Rebecca's parents separated when she was young and divorced in 1990. She has five half-siblings from her father's side, many of whom are also involved in theatre and film.

Rebecca went to Roedean School, where she was the head girl. She then studied English literature at St Catharine's College, Cambridge. She left college in 2002 before finishing her degree. While at Cambridge, she was very active in student theatre and even started her own theatre company.

Rebecca's first acting job was in 1992 when she was nine years old. She played young Sophy in her father's TV show, The Camomile Lawn. Her first big movie role was in 2006 in Starter for 10.

She became well-known after starring as Sarah Borden in Christopher Nolan's movie The Prestige (2006). Her role as Vicky in the Woody Allen film Vicky Cristina Barcelona (2008) made her famous in Hollywood. For this role, she was nominated for a Golden Globe award.

In 2008, she appeared in the historical drama Frost/Nixon. The next year, she was in the fantasy-horror film Dorian Gray.

After a small part in Please Give, Rebecca starred in Ben Affleck's crime drama The Town (2010). In 2010, she won a British Academy Television Award for her role in Red Riding: In the Year of Our Lord 1974. The next year, she was the main actress in the ghost film The Awakening.

In 2012, she played Beth Raymer in Lay the Favorite. She also starred in the TV series Parade's End (2012) with Benedict Cumberbatch, which earned her another BAFTA TV Award nomination. In 2013, Rebecca took on the role of Maya Hansen in the superhero movie Iron Man 3. She also appeared in the thriller Closed Circuit (2013).

In 2014, she starred with Johnny Depp in Transcendence. In 2015, Rebecca was in the romantic comedy Tumbledown and the thriller The Gift.

In the 2016 movie Christine, Rebecca played a real-life TV news reporter named Christine Chubbuck. Critics said her performance was amazing.

In 2017, she played Elizabeth Holloway Marston, a psychologist who helped inspire the character of Wonder Woman, in Professor Marston and the Wonder Women. In 2018, Rebecca provided the English voice for the character Mother in the animated film Mirai. In 2021, she starred in and helped produce the horror-thriller The Night House. The same year, she appeared in the monster movie Godzilla vs. Kong.

In 2021, Rebecca also directed her first movie, Passing. She wrote the script and helped produce it. The movie was inspired by her own family history. Passing was very well-received by critics.

Rebecca first acted on stage in 2002 in her father's play Mrs. Warren's Profession in London. Her performance was highly praised, and she won an award for it in 2003.

In 2003, Rebecca's father celebrated 50 years as a theatre director. Rebecca starred in two plays during this special season: As You Like It and The Fight for Barbara. She continued to perform in many plays for her father's company in 2004.

In 2005, she toured with As You Like It again, performing in New York and Los Angeles. From 2008 to 2009, Rebecca was part of a big theatre project called the Bridge Project. She performed in The Winter's Tale and The Cherry Orchard, which toured in many countries. In 2010–2011, she played Viola in Twelfth Night at London's National Theatre.

Rebecca made her first appearance on Broadway in 2013 in the play Machinal.

Rebecca Hall's Personal Life

Rebecca Hall was in a relationship with director Sam Mendes from 2011 to 2013. In 2014, she met actor Morgan Spector while they were acting together in a Broadway play. They got married in 2015. Their daughter, Ida, was born in 2018.
