Early life and family

Léa Seydoux was born in Paris, France, on July 1, 1985. Her father, Henri Jérôme Seydoux-Fornier de Clausonne, is a businessman. Her mother, Valérie Schlumberger, is a former actress who now works as a philanthropist, helping others.

Léa grew up in Paris and had a strict upbringing, though she is not religious. She is one of seven children. She has three older half-siblings from her mother's first marriage, an older sister named Camille Seydoux (who is a stylist), and two more half-brothers from her father's other marriage.

Her family is well-known in France, especially in the movie industry. Her grandfather, Jérôme Seydoux, is the chairman of Pathé, a big film company. Her granduncle, Nicolas Seydoux, is the chairman of Gaumont Film Company, another major film company. Her father also founded a French wireless company called Parrot. Even though her family is very involved in movies, Léa has said they didn't help her career, and she didn't ask for their help.

When she was a child, Léa didn't want to be an actress. She dreamed of becoming an opera singer and even studied music at the Conservatoire de Paris. Her parents divorced when she was three years old. She often felt lonely because her parents were frequently away for work.

Léa's mother, Valérie Schlumberger, started a boutique called Compagnie d'Afrique du Sénégal et de l'Afrique de l'ouest (CSAO) that supports African artists. She also founded charities like Empire des enfants, which helps homeless children in Dakar, Senegal. Léa is the "godmother" of this charity.

Léa describes herself as a shy child who felt a bit different. She even had anxiety during the 2009 Cannes Film Festival.
