Early Life and Military Service
Don Davis was born in Snow Hill, a town in North Carolina. He went to high school in Irving, Texas.
After high school, he attended the United States Air Force Academy, a special college for training Air Force officers. He graduated in 1994 and became an officer in the United States Air Force. He served for eight years and reached the rank of captain.
During his time in the Air Force, one of his important jobs was helping to coordinate operations for Air Force One. This is the special airplane that carries the President of the United States.
After his military service, Davis continued his education. He earned advanced degrees, called master's degrees and a doctorate, from Central Michigan University and East Carolina University.
Career Before Congress
After leaving the Air Force in 2001, Davis began a new career in education. He became a professor at East Carolina University, where he taught students about military history and leadership.
In 2001, he was elected mayor of his hometown, Snow Hill. He was re-elected in 2005. Being a mayor means he was the leader of the town's government.
In 2008, Davis was elected to the North Carolina Senate. This is part of the state government that makes laws just for North Carolina. He lost an election in 2010 but was elected again in 2012 to represent a newly-drawn district. He continued to serve as a state senator until he was elected to the U.S. Congress.
U.S. House of Representatives

The U.S. House of Representatives is a key part of the federal government in Washington, D.C. Representatives are elected to speak for the people in their local area, called a congressional district.
Elections
In 2021, Davis announced he would run for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. He won the election in November 2022. He ran for re-election in 2024 and won again in a very close race.
Work in Congress
Davis officially became a U.S. Representative on January 7, 2023. In Congress, members often join small groups called committees to focus on specific issues. Davis was appointed to two important committees:
- Committee on Armed Services, which deals with the U.S. military.
- Committee on Agriculture, which works on issues related to farming and food.
As a representative, Davis helps create and vote on new laws, called bills. In 2023, he worked with a Republican representative on a bill to help communities deal with floods.
In 2024, Davis helped make sure that jobs at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in North Carolina were safe. He also worked to get pay raises for military service members included in a major defense bill.
