Donald G. McPherson (born April 2, 1965) is a former American football quarterback. He played professionally in both the National Football League (NFL) and the Canadian Football League (CFL). Don spent seven seasons playing for teams like the Philadelphia Eagles, the Houston Oilers, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, and the Ottawa Rough Riders.
Before turning professional, McPherson played college football for the Syracuse Orange. He was a very successful college player. In 1987, he won two major awards: the Maxwell Award and the Davey O'Brien Award. These awards recognize the best players in college football.
After his great college career, the Eagles picked him in the sixth round of the 1988 NFL draft. This meant they chose him to play for their team. Because of his many achievements at Syracuse, he was honored by being inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2008.
Life After Football
After his football career, Don McPherson continued to be involved in sports and community work. He joined the Center for the Study of Sport in Society at Northeastern University. Later, he became the first executive director of the Sports Leadership Institute at Adelphi University.
