The Early Years (1970-1975)
In their first period, from 1970 to 1975, the band's main singer was Tom Johnston. Their music was mostly rock and roll. But they also mixed in sounds from folk music, country music, and R&B. This gave them a unique and popular style.
A New Sound (1975-1982)
Tom Johnston left the band in 1975. A new singer named Michael McDonald joined the group. Michael loved soul music, and his style changed the band's sound. They started making more soulful and smooth music. This new sound was also very popular. The band continued until 1982, when they decided to take a break.
Back Together Again (1987-Present)
After a few years, The Doobie Brothers got back together in 1987. Tom Johnston returned to the band. They have been active ever since, still performing and making music. Sometimes, Michael McDonald even joins them for special shows or recordings. They continue to be a beloved band for many fans.
