Dora Creek gets its name from the actual creek that flows through the area. Long ago, the local Aboriginal people called it "Doree Doree". This name meant "Creek running into a lake".

The way the creek meets Lake Macquarie is quite special. The banks of the creek stretch out into the lake like two long fingers. This makes it look like the creek is actually inside the lake! This unique shape is why the Aboriginal name makes so much sense.

The City of Lake Macquarie Council cares a lot about the environment here. They have worked hard to restore the creek's banks. They also teach people how important it is to protect creeks and waterways.

Dora Creek is known for its beautiful views. It's also close to the Watagan Mountains. Getting there is easy, as it's near the Sydney–Newcastle Freeway and has its own train station, Dora Creek Railway Station.
