About Dora Creek
Dora Creek is an important part of the local environment. It helps to drain water from the land around it. The creek's name, "Dora Creek", comes from an Aboriginal word. It means "Creek running into a lake".
Where Does Dora Creek Start?
The creek begins in the Watagan Mountains. This area is west of a town called Martinsville. At its start, the creek is about 40 meters (131 feet) above sea level.
Dora Creek's Journey
From the mountains, Dora Creek flows mostly towards the southeast. Along its path, two smaller streams join it. These smaller streams are called tributaries. They add more water to Dora Creek as it travels.
The creek travels for about 22.5 kilometers (14 miles). During its journey, it drops 40 meters (131 feet) in height. This drop helps the water flow towards its final destination.
Where Does Dora Creek End?
Dora Creek eventually flows into Lake Macquarie. This large lake is near the town also named Dora Creek. The creek meets the lake at sea level.
Lake Macquarie then connects to the Tasman Sea. The Tasman Sea is part of the huge South Pacific Ocean. This connection happens at a place called Swansea. So, the water from Dora Creek eventually reaches the ocean.
Crossing the Creek
A major road, the F3 Freeway, crosses over Dora Creek. You can find this crossing west of the town of Morisset.
