Exploring Doren's Geography
Doren is nestled in the northwest area of the Bregenz Forest, a lovely forested region. About two-thirds of the town sits on the south side of the Sulzbergstock, which is a part of the Molasse basin. This basin is a large area of land formed by ancient sediments. The remaining one-third of Doren is on the north side of the Sulzbergstock.
Rivers and Neighbors
The borders of Doren are naturally marked by three rivers: the Weißach, the Bregenzer Ach, and the Rotach. These rivers add to the scenic beauty of the area. Doren also shares its borders with five other communities in Vorarlberg. These are Sulzberg, Krumbach, Langenegg, Alberschwende, and Langen bei Bregenz.
Nature Park Membership
Doren is a proud member of the Naturpark Nagelfluhkette. This is a special nature park project shared between Germany and Austria. The landscape around Doren is full of forests, unique natural spots, many waterways, marshy areas (called bogs), and important natural habitats (biotopes). It's a great place for nature lovers!
Doren's Culture and History
The Parish Church of Doren
The main church in Doren is called the Parish Church. It was first built in 1823, following plans from the Bregenz District Office. The church was officially opened in 1826. Later, in 1853, it became the main parish church for the area.
What Does Doren's Coat of Arms Mean?
Doren has its own special symbol, called a coat of arms. This symbol was created in 1969. It was inspired by a design from Konrad Honold, an artist from Schruns who was good at creating heraldry (the art of coats of arms). The coat of arms shows two rivers, the Weißach and the Bregenzerach, which are important to the town's geography. The deer antlers on the coat of arms represent hunting, which has likely been a part of the area's history.
