Langenegg is a small town in Vorarlberg, the westernmost state of Austria. About 1,200 people live here. It is known for its beautiful natural surroundings and strong community spirit.

Geography of Langenegg

Langenegg is located in the Bregenz Forest area. This is a lovely region east of Lake Constance. The town is part of the Bregenz District.

The area of Langenegg is about 10.47 square kilometers (about 4 square miles). A large part of this land is covered by forests (38.6%) and farms (54.6%). The name "Langenegg" comes from the German word "Eck(e)," which means "corner." This is because the town's shape is like a "long corner."

For many years, the Habsburgs ruled the towns in Vorarlberg. They governed from places like Tyrol and Further Austria.

Between 1805 and 1814, Vorarlberg was part of Bavaria. After that, it became part of Austria again. Langenegg has been a part of Vorarlberg since the state was officially formed in 1861.

After World War II, from 1945 to 1955, Langenegg was in the French occupation zone. This meant French forces helped manage the area.

A special moment for Langenegg happened on July 6, 2010. The town won the 11th European Village Renewal Award. This award celebrates villages that have done a great job improving their community.

The Sennerei Langenegg is a large dairy. It was formed in 1978 when three smaller dairies joined together. These smaller dairies were built in 1900, 1947, and 1952. Today, this dairy gets milk from about 450 cows, supplied by 30 different farms.

The Sennerei Langenegg is part of the Käsestrasse Bregenzerwald. This is a group of farmers, cheesemakers, artisans, and restaurant owners. They work together to promote small farms, local products, and the cheese culture of Vorarlberg.
