Druie Douglas Barnard Jr. (born March 20, 1922 – died January 11, 2018) was an important politician from Georgia. He served as a United States Congressman, helping to make laws for the country.

Early Life and Education
Doug Barnard Jr. grew up in Augusta, Georgia. He went to public schools in Richmond County and graduated from the Academy of Richmond County in 1939. He then studied at Augusta College from 1939 to 1940. In 1943, he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Mercer University in Macon.
Serving His Country
From 1943 to 1945, Doug Barnard Jr. served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a technician and worked in finance. He was stationed in Indiana, USA, and also served in Europe, including England, France, and Belgium. After the war, he returned to Georgia. In 1948, he earned a law degree from the Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University.
A Career in Public Service
After finishing his studies, Barnard worked in banking from 1948 to 1962. He was mainly at the Georgia Railroad Bank in Augusta. From 1963 to 1966, he worked as an executive secretary for Georgia Governor Carl Sanders. He also served on the Georgia State Department of Transportation board from 1966 to 1976. He was a member of the Democratic Party.
Barnard was involved in politics for many years. He was a delegate to the Georgia State Democratic convention in 1962. He also attended the 1964 Democratic National Convention. He was elected to the United States House of Representatives and served there from 1977 to 1993.
On March 22, 1980, Doug Barnard Jr. spoke at the unveiling of the Georgia Guidestones monument in Elberton. He explained that the monument was meant to guide future generations. He said it should encourage Americans to protect the environment.
Doug Barnard Jr. was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Augusta. He was married to Naomi Holt "Nopi" Bernard, who was a poet. He passed away on January 11, 2018, in Augusta, Georgia. He had two daughters, one son, and seven grandchildren.
Legacy
A road in Augusta was named in his honor. It is called the Doug Barnard Parkway.
