Doug Locke is an American singer, songwriter, actor, model, and host. He is sometimes known simply as Locke when he performs music. Doug was born in Houston, Texas.

Early Life and Learning

Doug Locke is the son of Gene and Aubrey Locke. His father, Gene Locke, was a City Attorney and Commissioner in Houston. Doug has four brothers and sisters, including actress Tembi Locke and writer Attica Locke. His uncle, Frederick Newhouse, won an Olympic Gold medal.

Doug became interested in performing arts when he was young. He went to theater and dance summer camps as a child. After high school, Doug moved to Los Angeles. There, he earned a bachelor's degree in Theater Arts from Occidental College. While studying theater, Doug acted in many plays. These included The Crucible, Blues for Alabama Sky, The Pajama Game, and She Stoops to Conquer.

During his time at Occidental College, Doug started performing at open mic events. He also took part in talent shows. People began to follow his work because of his exciting stage shows. These shows featured cool dance moves, costume changes, and even a burning guitar once!

Doug Locke's Career

Doug was inspired to work in entertainment by his sisters, Tembi Locke (an actress) and Attica Locke (a writer). He started his career in movies and TV. He played a young Jimi Hendrix in a short film called "A Technicolor Dream." This film won an award at the Silver Lake Film Festival.

Doug has appeared in many commercials and TV shows. He was in episodes of House M.D., Bones, and Shameless. He also appeared in international ads for big brands like Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Bacardi, Subaru, Contiki, Mercedes Benz, and GAP.

Doug had small roles in the movie Home Again, which starred Reese Witherspoon. He also appeared in the TV series Jane The Virgin. In his sister Tembi Locke's Netflix series From Scratch, Doug made a cameo as "Perry" the Icy Receptionist. He has also been in music videos for artists like Walk The Moon, Adam Lambert, Halsey, and Taylor Swift.

Music: Blue Heart

In 2015, Doug Locke released his first music collection, an EP called “Blue Heart.” The main song from this EP was "#ThisCouldBeUs." Doug's music is influenced by artists like Prince, Jimi Hendrix, Lenny Kravitz, Rihanna, Beyoncé, and Madonna. His work has been featured in many popular magazines and websites.

“Blue Heart” has songs that mix Electric Pop, Funk Rock, and R&B Soul. These songs are about love, relationships, and feeling strong. Doug wrote them with producer Eric McNeely.

The song “#ThisCouldBeUs” reached number 32 on the iTunes Hot 100 chart in Barbados. Its music video became very popular online, with over 1.3 million views. The video was praised for showing a touching story of love. It was also shown at the 2015 Massimadi Festival in Montreal.

The music video for “KING,” the second song from “Blue Heart,” came out on May 4, 2015. This was to support National Anti-Bullying Day. His third song, "Rendezvous," with Kaleena Zanders, was released on January 24, 2016.

The music video for this song has a vampire theme, inspired by the 1980s movie The Lost Boys. The video was nominated for "Best Indie Music Video" at the 2018 Queerty Awards.

Music: Black Travolta

Doug Locke released his Black Travolta EP on May 8, 2020. This was the first of three EPs called the Lunar Series. "Black Travolta" includes country, disco, pop, and hip hop sounds. According to American Songwriter magazine, the song "Black Travolta" mixes the famous disco sound from The Bee Gees’ “Stayin’ Alive” with a Western movie feel.

The second EP in the series, Why? (Lunar II), was released on June 26, 2020. The music video for "Why?" premiered on September 24, 2020. It was featured by Billboard and Stitched Sound.

Doug has performed sold-out shows at The Viper Room on Los Angeles' Sunset Strip. He also gave a memorable performance at WeHo Pride on June 4, 2023.

Music: Phoenix Album

On June 23, 2023, Doug Locke released his full-length album called Phoenix. A review from Queerty said that the album shows Doug's growth over three years. The title "Phoenix" stands for hope, new beginnings, and change. The album mixes 80s-style dance-pop with guitar music, and also includes disco and house influences. The review mentioned that Doug's deep and smooth voice adds a special touch to songs like "Black Travolta."

To support the album, Doug performed a sold-out album release show at the Viper Room. He was also interviewed by Snubb3d Magazine and profiled by Outfront Magazine.
