Douglas Allan Zmolek, born on November 3, 1970, is an American former professional ice hockey player. He played as a defenseman in the NHL for eight seasons, from 1992 to 2000.
Playing in the NHL
Douglas Zmolek finished high school in 1989. He was chosen very early in the 1989 NHL Entry Draft by the Minnesota North Stars. This draft is where NHL teams pick young players. Zmolek then went to the University of Minnesota and played college hockey. He was recognized as one of the best players in his final year, 1992.
Zmolek started his NHL career in the 1992–93 with the San Jose Sharks. He had been traded to them earlier. In his second year, he was traded back to the Stars team, which had moved to Dallas.
Douglas Zmolek was known as a "stay-at-home defenseman." This means he was very good at defending his team's goal and blocking shots. He played for the Dallas Stars for a while. After that, he also played for the Los Angeles Kings and the Chicago Blackhawks. Zmolek stopped playing professional hockey after the 2000–01 season.
During his NHL career, Zmolek played 467 games. He scored 11 goals and made 53 assists, totaling 64 points. He also had 905 penalty minutes, showing he was a tough player.
