Dougie Brown's Cricket Journey

Early Life and Choosing Cricket

When Dougie Brown was young, he went to Alloa Academy. He loved sports and even played football for the Scotland under-18 team. He also played rugby. But in the end, he decided to focus on cricket.

Playing for Warwickshire

Dougie first caught the eye of Warwickshire County Cricket Club in 1992 while playing for Scotland. He signed with them and played his first game that same year. He stayed with Warwickshire for his whole career. During his time there, he scored over 12,500 runs and took more than 850 wickets.

Winning Trophies with Warwickshire

Dougie was a big part of Warwickshire's success in the mid-1990s.

  • In 1995, he helped Warwickshire win the 1995 NatWest Trophy.
  • That same year, he scored 506 runs and took 37 wickets. This helped the county win the 1995 County Championship.
  • In 1997, he scored 374 runs and took 17 wickets as Warwickshire won the 1997 AXA Life League.
  • Also in 1997, he had his best bowling figures in a first-class match. He took 8 wickets for only 89 runs against Pakistan 'A'.

Playing for England and Scotland

In 1997, Dougie was chosen to play for England's one-day team. He made his debut on December 11, 1997. His most memorable game for England was against the West Indies on December 13. He took two quick wickets, including the famous Brian Lara. This helped England win easily. However, he didn't play many more games for England after 1998.

Later, Dougie played for Scotland in the 2005 ICC Trophy. He took 11 wickets and scored 59 runs in the final, helping Scotland win the competition. Because of this win, Scotland got temporary One Day International status. Dougie then played ODI cricket for Scotland in the 2006 European Cricket Championships, 2007 World Cricket League, and the 2007 Cricket World Cup.

His playing career ended in July 2007. He got a serious Achilles tendon injury during a twenty20 game.

Dougie Brown's Coaching Career

After his playing days, Dougie Brown became a cricket coach.

  • During the 2003 Cricket World Cup, he coached the Namibian team.
  • At the end of the 2007 season, he retired from playing to become a coach at Warwickshire County Cricket Club. He helped Warwickshire win two trophies: the T20 Blast in 2014 and the 2016 Royal London One-Day Cup.
  • In January 2017, Dougie was named the head coach of the United Arab Emirates national cricket team. He left this role in 2020.
