History
A Look Back in Time
Dover Hill had its own post office starting in 1846. This post office helped people send and receive mail for many years. It stayed open until 1906. People believe the community was probably named after Dover in England.
Geography
Where is Dover Hill Located?
Dover Hill is found right in the middle of Martin County. A road called Indiana Highway 450 runs through the community. If you travel south on this highway for about 4 miles, you will reach Shoals, which is the main town and county seat of Martin County. Going northeast for about 23 miles will take you to Bedford.
The community sits on a narrow ridge. This is like a long, raised piece of land. Water from this ridge flows into different creeks. These creeks include Dover Run, Pass Creek, Branch Run, and Beech Creek. All these creeks eventually flow into the East Fork of the White River. The White River itself passes about 1 mile east of Dover Hill.
