The Story: A Mystical Adventure
This movie tells a different version of the Dragon Ball story.
Training for the Tournament
Young Goku and Krillin are training hard with Master Roshi for a big event. This event is the World Martial Arts Tournament. It is going to be held in a country called Mifan.
A Search for Dragon Balls
The Emperor of Mifan, Chiaotzu, is very worried. He is trying to find his lost "Ran Ran." Meanwhile, a tricky "Minister" named Master Shen is also looking for something important. He has Emperor Pilaf create a special Dragon Radar. Shen then takes the radar and uses it to find the powerful Dragon Balls.
Shen and his helper, Tao, claim they want to use the Dragon Balls to find Ran Ran. But their real plan is much darker. With help from Tien, they want to take over the country of Mifan.
Secrets and Surprises
General Blue discovers a secret: Ran Ran is being held in Shen's room! But before he can tell everyone, Tao stops him.
Meanwhile, Bora and his son Upa have found the last Dragon Ball. They bring it to Mifan. They want to use its power to ask that Mifan's soldiers leave the land near Korin Tower.
The Tournament and a Big Wish
Bora is tricked into joining the Tournament. The winner of the Tournament gets one wish from Emperor Chiaotzu. Sadly, Bora is defeated by Tao during the tournament.
Bulma, Oolong, Launch, and Puar are also looking for the other six Dragon Balls. Bulma hopes to wish for a boyfriend! But when they find the Dragon Balls, they accidentally drop them. The balls fall to the bottom of the moat around Chiaotzu's castle.
Friendship and Defeat
During the chaos, Tien realizes something important. He cares too much about Chiaotzu to let him be harmed. Instead of helping Master Shen, Tien uses his power to send Shen flying away. Tien then gives Chiaotzu back Ran Ran. It turns out Ran Ran was a porcelain doll, not a real girl! Tien explains that Shen and Tao had hidden her.
The story also includes a part where Tao and Goku meet Arale. With Arale's help, Goku manages to defeat Tao.
Finally, Goku throws the last Dragon Ball into the moat. This summons the mighty Shenron, the Dragon God. Upa makes a wish to Shenron: he asks for Bora to be brought back.
