Hiromi Tsuru (born March 29, 1960 – died November 16, 2017) was a famous Japanese actress and voice actress. She was also a narrator, which means she often told stories or information for TV shows and news.

Hiromi Tsuru started her career as a child with the Himawari Theatre Group. Later, she worked with Aoni Production until her death. She was best known for being the voice of Bulma in the Dragon Ball series for over 31 years! She also voiced many other popular characters like Ukyo Kuonji from Ranma ½, Dokin-chan from Soreike! Anpanman, and Madoka Ayukawa from Kimagure Orange Road.

Biography

Hiromi Tsuru was born in Chitose, Hokkaido, Japan. When she was in second grade, she joined the Himawari Theatre Group with her sister. This was in 1968, and she made her acting debut in a TV show called Princess Comet.

In 1969, she also appeared in another TV show called Horror Theater Unbalance. After these early roles, she was featured on magazine covers and in children's fashion shows. She even lent her voice to the American film Bugsy Malone, dubbing the voice of Jodie Foster for Japanese TV.

Career

After finishing high school, Hiromi Tsuru started her voice acting career. In 1978, she got her first main voice role as Perrine Paindavoine in The Story of Perrine. After a short break from voice acting, she returned in 1981 to voice a cat in Ohayō! Spank.

In 1982, she joined Aoni Production, a big agency for voice actors. From then on, she became very active as a voice actress. In the 1990s, she also started doing a lot of narration for TV shows and news. She continued working as a voice actress and narrator until just before she passed away.

Personal life

Hiromi Tsuru was married to Keiichi Nanba from 1986 to 1990. They did not have any children together.

Death

On November 16, 2017, Hiromi Tsuru was found unconscious in her car in Tokyo. She was taken to a hospital but was sadly pronounced dead. Her agency later shared that she died at age 57 from a sudden heart problem called an aortic dissection.
