Drinnan Peak is a tall mountain summit located in the beautiful Valhalla Ranges. These ranges are part of the larger Selkirk Mountains in southeast British Columbia, Canada. This peak stands at 2,584 meters (about 8,478 feet) high.
You can find Drinnan Peak on the southwestern edge of Valhalla Provincial Park. It is about 2.8 kilometers (1.7 miles) southeast of Gregorio Peak. The mountain is also about 18 kilometers (11 miles) west of the town of Slocan and Slocan Lake.
The mountain is named after Bill Drinnan. He was a trapper who worked in this area during the 1920s and 1930s. For a while, the mountain was called Drinnon Peak. But in 1986, the Canadian government body that names places officially changed the spelling to Drinnan Peak. This was done to match the correct spelling of Bill Drinnan's family name.
What's the Weather Like?
Drinnan Peak has a type of weather called a subarctic climate. This means it has very cold, snowy winters. The summers are usually mild. Temperatures can drop below −20 °C (which is -4 °F). With the wind, it can feel even colder, sometimes below −30 °C (-22 °F).
When snow melts or rain falls, the water flows down the mountain. This water goes into Gwillim Creek and Hoder Creek. These creeks are smaller streams that eventually flow into the Slocan River.
Who First Climbed Drinnan Peak?
