Dumaagiin Sodnom (Mongolian: Думаагийн Содном) was an important political leader in Mongolia. He was born on July 14, 1933. He served as the Prime Minister of Mongolia from 1984 to 1990.

Early Life and Education
Sodnom was born in the Örgön District of Dornogovi Province. This was on July 14, 1933. He first went to school in the Bayanmönkh District. This district is in Khentii Province.
After that, he studied at the Finance and Economic Technical College. This college was in Ulaanbaatar, the capital city. He attended from 1946 to 1950. Later, he studied economics in Irkutsk from 1954 to 1958.
Career in Government
Sodnom started his career working as an accountant. He worked at the Ministry of Finance for four years. In 1954, he joined the MPRP. This was a major political party in Mongolia.
Rising Through the Ranks
He continued to work his way up in the government. In 1963, he became the Minister of Finance. He held this important job until 1969. As Minister, he managed the country's money.
From 1969 to 1972, he was the first deputy chairman. This was for the State Planning Commission. This group helped plan the country's economy. In 1972, he became the chairman of this commission.
In 1974, he was given another big role. He became the deputy chairman of the Council of Ministers. This council was like the government's main team.
Becoming Prime Minister
On December 12, 1984, Sodnom became the chairman of the Council of Ministers. This position is also known as the Prime Minister. He took over after a change in leadership. Jambyn Batmönkh, a political ally, became the head of the People's Great Hural.
Sodnom was also chosen to be a member of the MPRP Politburo. This was a very powerful group in the party. He held both these positions until March 21, 1990.
Later Career
In 1990, there were public protests in Mongolia. Because of these protests, the government leaders resigned. Sodnom also stepped down from his roles.
After leaving his government positions, Sodnom continued to work. From 1990 to 2001, he was the director of a company. This company was called Mongolian Gazryn Tos. It dealt with petroleum. In 1992, he also served as an aide to Prime Minister Puntsagiin Jasrai.
