Dutch Hollow Lake is a special lake in Wisconsin, United States. It's not a natural lake, but one that was made by people! Developers created it in the 1970s. They did this by building a dam to hold back the water from Dutch Hollow Creek.

Today, Dutch Hollow Lake is open for everyone to enjoy. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources helps manage it. You can even access the lake from two public ramps. The lake is about 40 feet (12 meters) deep. Its water level stays steady thanks to the creek and also from groundwater that is pumped in.

How Was Dutch Hollow Lake Made?

Work on the dam for Dutch Hollow Lake started in 1970. A company called Branigar Lake Properties of Wisconsin built it. Once the lake was formed, different types of fish were added. This helped create a healthy environment for them.

Today, the lake is home to many kinds of fish. You can find Northern pike, Walleye, Largemouth bass, Yellow perch, Crappie, Bluegill, and other Sunfish.

Where is Dutch Hollow Lake Located?

Dutch Hollow Lake is found in the town of La Valle. This area is part of Sauk County. The lake sits at an elevation of 951 feet (290 meters) above sea level.

It is located northwest of the city of Reedsburg. The popular tourist city of Wisconsin Dells is also only about 30 minutes away. The lake covers an area of about 210 acres. It is about 40 feet deep at its deepest point.

What Kind of Lake is Dutch Hollow Lake?

Dutch Hollow Lake is known as a drainage lake. This means it has both an inlet (where water flows in) and an outlet (where water flows out). The main source of its water comes from the stream that drains into it.

When full, the lake can hold over 1.3 billion US gallons (4.9 million cubic meters) of water. Its shoreline stretches for about eight and a half miles. The lake also has a special feature called a bottom draw dam. This means water is released from the bottom of the lake. This helps keep the water cooler for fish and farm animals downstream.

The lake gets water from a large area of land called a watershed. This watershed covers about 3,072 acres. Because some water seeps into the ground, the lake also gets extra water from natural springs that are pumped in.
