Dwaine R. Caraway, born on April 30, 1952, is an American politician. He served as the interim, or temporary, Mayor of Dallas in 2011. He was also a member of the Dallas City Council for many years.

Dwaine Caraway's Political Journey
Dwaine Caraway first became a city council member in 2007. His wife, Barbara Mallory Caraway, had also served on the city council before him.
Becoming Acting Mayor of Dallas
In 2011, the Mayor of Dallas, Tom Leppert, resigned from his position. He left to campaign for the U.S. Senate. Because of this, Dwaine Caraway became the acting mayor. This meant he took over the mayor's duties temporarily. His first meeting with the Dallas City Council as acting mayor was on March 2, 2011. He served in this role until June 26, 2011. After that, Mike Rawlings was elected as the new mayor.
Returning to the City Council
Caraway left the city council in 2015. This was because of rules about how many terms a person can serve in a row. However, he was elected to the council again in 2017. Carolyn King Arnold later took his seat in a special election.
Early Life and Education
Dwaine Caraway grew up in Dallas, Texas. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in Dallas. After high school, he attended Texas Southern University for two years.

Caraway is a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity. This is a social organization that focuses on community service.

Dwaine Caraway's wife is Barbara. She has also been involved in public service. She served as a Dallas City Council Member. She was also a member of the Texas House of Representatives.
