Dwaine L. Carpenter, born on November 4, 1976, is a former professional football player. He played as a defensive back, which is a player who helps stop the other team from scoring. Dwaine played college football for the North Carolina A&T Aggies. He later joined teams like the San Francisco 49ers and St. Louis Rams in the National Football League (NFL). He also played for the Calgary Stampeders in the Canadian Football League (CFL).

Dwaine Carpenter's Football Journey

Dwaine Carpenter started his professional football career in 2002. He was signed by the Buffalo Destroyers. This section will tell you more about his time playing for different teams.

Playing for the San Francisco 49ers

Dwaine Carpenter joined the San Francisco 49ers on May 29, 2003. He got his first chance to start a game on December 28. This happened when another player, Zack Bronson, was injured.

In 2004, Dwaine worked hard to earn a starting spot as a safety. A safety is a defensive player who helps cover the deep parts of the field. He faced competition from other players. Unfortunately, a knee injury made it harder for him to win the spot.

Later that season, some other players got injured. This led to Dwaine becoming a starting cornerback on November 21. A cornerback is another defensive player who covers receivers. He played this position for the rest of the season. He then had a back injury in week 16.

In 2005, Dwaine was named the starting free safety for the 49ers. During training camp, he had thigh and foot injuries. He was released from the team on September 19. Over his time with the 49ers, Dwaine Carpenter made 82 tackles and caught one interception. A tackle is when a defensive player stops an offensive player. An interception is when a defensive player catches a pass meant for an offensive player.

Time with the St. Louis Rams

After leaving the 49ers, Dwaine Carpenter signed with the St. Louis Rams on December 28, 2005. He played in 10 games for the Rams. During his time there, he recorded six tackles.

Playing for the Calgary Stampeders

Dwaine Carpenter moved to the Canadian Football League (CFL) in 2007. He signed with the Calgary Stampeders on July 13, 2007. His first game with Calgary was against the Toronto Argonauts on July 21. He made his first CFL tackle on August 8. He had a career high of six tackles in three different games that season. In a playoff game, he made his first CFL interception. He caught a pass from the opposing quarterback, Kerry Joseph.

In 2008, Dwaine played in all eighteen games for the Stampeders. He started 12 games as an outside linebacker. A linebacker is a defensive player who plays behind the defensive line. He had 35 tackles that season. 17 of these tackles came on special teams. Special teams are units that play during kickoffs and punts. He also got his first CFL sack against Toronto. A sack is when a defensive player tackles the quarterback behind the line of scrimmage.

Dwaine Carpenter played in the 96th Grey Cup game. This is the championship game of the CFL. His team, the Stampeders, played against the Montreal Alouettes. Dwaine had four tackles in this important game. He was released by the Stampeders on May 14, 2010.

Short Stint with the Toronto Argonauts

On May 26, 2010, Dwaine Carpenter signed with the Toronto Argonauts. This was another team in the CFL. He was released by the team a short time later, on June 17, 2010. He was re-signed on July 5, 2010, but then released again the very next day.
