Eagles Mere is a small town, called a borough, located in Sullivan County, Pennsylvania, USA. In 2020, about 151 people lived there. The name "Eagles Mere" means "the eagle's lake." The word mere is an old word for lake.

History of Eagles Mere
Eagles Mere was first planned in 1877. It officially became a borough in 1899. The Eagles Mere Historic District is a special area. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1996. This means it's an important historical place.
Developing a Resort Town
A civil engineer named Embley S. Chase came to Eagles Mere in 1886. He helped turn it into a popular resort town. He planned the streets and helped create fun activities. These included water sports, an ice toboggan slide, and walking trails.
Mr. Chase also helped set up the borough's government. He designed the water and sewer systems. He even helped bring electricity to the town. He also mapped the bottom of the lake. He was involved in designing a narrow gauge railroad. This train line used to connect Eagles Mere to a nearby town called Sonestown.
Famous Hotels and Theater
From the 1880s to the 1940s, Eagles Mere had five large resort hotels. The Forest Inn opened in 1902. Many famous guests stayed there. These included General George C. Marshall and theater director Alvina Krause.
In 1945, Alvina Krause and Lucy McCammon leased the Eagles Mere Playhouse. They ran this theater for 20 years. Many well-known actors performed there. Some of them were Patricia Neal, Charlton Heston, Jennifer Jones, Paula Prentiss, and Richard Benjamin.
The original theater group is no longer there. However, in 1993, the David A. Dewire Community Center hosted a summer drama workshop. This workshop was recognized across the country.
