About Ealey Glacier
Ealey Glacier is a type of glacier. It flows from the mountains down to the sea. The end of the glacier, called its terminus, is near Cape Bidlingmaier. This spot is between two places called Melbourne Bluff and North Barrier. The glacier ends in tall walls of ice that meet the ocean.
Other glaciers are also nearby. To the southeast, you can find Compton Glacier. Its end is at Compton Lagoon. To the west, there is Downes Glacier. It ends at Mechanics Bay.
Discovery and Naming
The Ealey Glacier was named after a person named E. H. M. Ealey. He was a biologist (someone who studies living things). Ealey was part of an expedition in 1949. This trip was called the ANARE Heard Island Expedition. During his work, Ealey walked across this glacier. He was doing a survey of the plants and animals on his way to Spit Point.
