Earl Ben Gilliam (August 17, 1931 – January 28, 2001) was an important judge in the United States. He served as a federal judge for the Southern District of California. He was born in Clovis, New Mexico, and later became a respected legal figure.

Early Life and Education

Earl Ben Gilliam was born on August 17, 1931, in Clovis, New Mexico. He worked hard in his studies and went on to college.

College and Law School

He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from San Diego State University in 1953. After that, he continued his education in law. He received his law degree, called a Juris Doctor, from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law in 1957.

A Career in Law

After finishing law school, Earl Ben Gilliam began his career helping people with legal matters.

Early Legal Roles

  • From 1957 to 1961, he worked as a deputy district attorney for San Diego County. This means he helped the government bring legal cases against people accused of crimes.
