East Hampton is a train stop on the Montauk Branch of the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR). You can find it on Railroad Avenue in East Hampton, New York. It's located between Newtown Lane and Race Lane.

There's parking available along Railroad Avenue. You can park as far west as King Street. Right in front of the station building, there's a special lane for buses and taxis.

Station History

When Was East Hampton Station Built?

The East Hampton station was built in 1895. It was constructed by a company called the Brooklyn and Montauk Railroad. The original station building from that time is still standing today.

A Historic Landmark

Because it's so old and important, the station building was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This happened on June 2, 2000. Being on this list means it's a special place that should be protected. In 2005, the station building was only open on Sundays.

Future Plans for the Station

In October 2017, the MTA (Metropolitan Transportation Authority) announced exciting plans. They decided to restore the East Hampton Station. This means they will make it look like its original brick building with a green roof. This project is part of a bigger plan. The state is spending $120 million to fix up 16 LIRR stations. These stations are in Nassau and Suffolk Counties.

Station Layout

How the Station Works

The East Hampton station has one platform. This platform is long enough for six train cars. It's a "high-level" platform, which means it's at the same height as the train doors. This makes it easier to get on and off the train. The platform is on the south side of the single track.

Trains heading towards Speonk, Jamaica, Long Island City, or Penn Station use this track. Trains going towards Montauk also use this same track.
