Community Challenges: Water Shortages
East Porterville has faced serious challenges with its water supply. In 2014, during a big drought in California, the area experienced "Exceptional" drought conditions. This means the drought was very severe.
Many homes in East Porterville rely on private wells for water. Because of the drought, the water levels underground dropped very low. This caused nearly 1,000 homes to run out of water. People called local agencies for help, but it was hard for authorities to know the full extent of the problem because they didn't keep track of private wells. This situation highlighted the importance of a stable water supply for communities.
