East Randolph is a small community in Cattaraugus County, New York. It is known as a "hamlet" and a "census-designated place" (CDP). This means it's a small settlement that isn't officially a city or town, but the government counts its population.
East Randolph used to be a "village," which is a type of local government. However, it changed back to a hamlet in 2011. It is located next to the former village of Randolph. Most of East Randolph is in the Town of Randolph, with a small part in the Town of Conewango. The area code for East Randolph is 716.
History of East Randolph
The first business in East Randolph opened in 1826. A post office, where people could send and receive mail, started operating in 1850.
East Randolph officially became a village in 1881. This meant it had its own local government. However, in 2010, people voted to change things. Both East Randolph and the nearby village of Randolph decided to stop being villages. They wanted to become hamlets within the larger Town of Randolph. A small part of East Randolph joined the Town of Conewango.
So, on December 31, 2011, East Randolph officially stopped being a village. At that time, the mayor was Howard Van Rensselaer. He later became a legislator for Cattaraugus County. The post office in East Randolph closed its doors in 2017.

The total area of East Randolph is about 2.8 square kilometers (1.1 square miles). All of this area is land, with no large bodies of water inside its boundaries.
Important roads run through the hamlet. NY Route 394 goes through East Randolph. Also, NY Route 242 and County Road 7 enter the community from the east.
A stream called Elm Creek flows through East Randolph. This creek is a small branch of Little Conewango Creek. Both are part of the Allegheny River system. East of the hamlet, there is a small body of water called Stilson Pond.
