East Sacramento (also called East Sac) is a neighborhood in Sacramento, California, United States. It is located east of the downtown and midtown areas.
East Sacramento is surrounded by U.S. Route 50 to the south and Business Loop 80 to the west and north. Elvas Avenue is to its northeast and east. California State University, Sacramento and the American River are to the southeast. Homes started being built here in the 1890s. The area officially became part of Sacramento in 1911. East Sacramento is also home to McKinley Park and the famous "Fabulous Forties" neighborhood.

McKinley Park: A Green Space in East Sac
McKinley Park is a large park in East Sacramento. It covers about 32-acre (130,000 m2). The park is bordered by McKinley Boulevard to the north and H Street to the south. Alhambra Boulevard is to the west, and 33rd Street is to the east.
There is also a smaller park right across 33rd Street. A branch of the Sacramento Public Library is located inside the Clunie Clubhouse. This clubhouse is a community center within the park. The library serves East Sacramento, Midtown, and River Park. It holds 45,000 books for people to borrow. The park also has a small lake and eight tennis courts. The smaller park is home to the Shepard Garden and Arts Center. Many people enjoy running and walking in McKinley Park.

East Sacramento and McKinley Park are very popular neighborhoods. This is partly because they are close to major highways. They are also near the Midtown area and the State Capitol. Homes in East Sac have become much more valuable.

Fabulous Forties: Historic Homes and Famous Residents
The "Fab Forties" neighborhood is a special part of East Sacramento. Former President Ronald Reagan lived here at 1341 45th Street. He lived there for most of his time as Governor of California.
The "Fab '40s" was once the end point for a large streetcar system. This system covered almost all the old neighborhoods of the city. Forty-sixth Street at J Street was where the J Street Line turned around. This made 46th Street one of the widest streets in East Sacramento.
The land between 38th and 47th Streets, bordered by J Street and Folsom Boulevard, has some of the largest lots in East Sacramento. This is why there are many big houses here. These large homes gave the area its name. Before the Great Depression, these grand homes were like modern suburban mansions. Today, they are seen as beautiful, large houses in a very expensive area. Many homes in McKinley Park and East Sacramento are being remodeled. Some are even getting extra stories added. The Fab Forties neighborhood has a deodar cedar tree that is over 100 years old.

East Sacramento has a mix of different people. About 74% of the residents are White. About 10% are Hispanic, 5% are Asian, and 5% are Black. Another 6% are from mixed backgrounds or other groups.
Historically, the area near Sacred Heart Parish was mostly Irish-American. The neighborhood near St. Mary Parish was mostly Italian-American.
