Easy Mo Bee's Music Journey
Starting Out in Music
Easy Mo Bee grew up in Brooklyn, New York City. He started making music after hearing producers like Ced Gee and Marley Marl. His first big chance came with Big Daddy Kane's album, It's a Big Daddy Thing. After that, he worked with The Genius, who later became GZA from Wu-Tang Clan. Mo Bee produced most of GZA's first album, Words From the Genius. He also worked on a track for RZA's first single.
Around this time, Mo Bee had a group called Rappin' Is Fundamental with his friends. They released one album in 1991 called The Doo-Hop Legacy. The famous jazz musician Miles Davis then asked Mo Bee to mix jazz with hip hop. These recordings became Davis's last album, Doo-Bop, released in 1992 after Davis passed away.
Success in the 1990s
In 1993, Easy Mo Bee started working with Sean Combs' Bad Boy Entertainment. He produced the first song for The Notorious B.I.G.. Easy Mo Bee also produced many songs for two important Bad Boy albums. These were Project: Funk da World by Craig Mack and Ready to Die by The Notorious B.I.G. He also produced the "Flava in Ya Ear (Remix)." This popular song featured Craig Mack, The Notorious B.I.G., Busta Rhymes, Rampage, and LL Cool J.
In 1994 and 1995, Mo Bee worked with 2Pac. He produced songs for both 2Pac and The Notorious B.I.G. One song was "Runnin' From tha Police." This song was special because it had both Pac and B.I.G. on it. Mo Bee used cool production tricks for the bassline in this song. He played it live on his music machine, the E-mu SP-1200.
Mo Bee also produced two songs for 2Pac's 1995 album, Me Against the World. During this time, he made popular songs for other groups too. These included Lost Boyz ("Jeeps, Lex Coups, Bimaz & Benz"), Das EFX ("Microphone Master"), and Busta Rhymes ("Everything Remains Raw").
Later Work and Awards
In 1997, Mo Bee produced two more songs for Biggie's album, Life After Death. These songs were "I Love the Dough" and "Going Back to Cali." These were the last songs he produced for Bad Boy Records.
In 2000, he released his own album called Now or Never: Oddysey 2000. It featured many East Coast artists like Busta Rhymes and Raekwon. Over the next ten years, he continued to make music for artists like Big Daddy Kane and Wu-Tang Clan. He even won a Grammy Award for his work on Alicia Keys' album, The Diary of Alicia Keys (2003).
