Eden Valley is a small town in South Australia. It is located in the beautiful Barossa Ranges. The town got its name because early explorers found the word "Eden" carved into a tree.
Eden Valley sits high up, about 460 meters above sea level. The area gets a good amount of rain, around 716.2mm each year. Eden Valley is part of the Barossa Council, which helps manage the local area. It also belongs to the Schubert state election area and the Barker and Mayo federal election areas.
Eden Valley's Famous Wines
Eden Valley is very well known for its wine. It gives its name to an important wine growing region. This region shares its western border with the famous Barossa Valley wine region.
The Eden Valley wine region is about the same size as the Barossa Valley. It is especially famous for making high-quality riesling and shiraz wines. These wines are enjoyed by many people around the world.
History of Wine Making
The first vineyard in Eden Valley was planted a long time ago. In 1847, an Englishman named Joseph Gilbert started the Pewsey Vale vineyard. This was a very important step for the region's wine industry.
High Eden Sub-Region
Within the Eden Valley wine region, there is a special smaller area called High Eden. This sub-region is located even higher up in the Barossa Ranges. Being higher means it has cooler temperatures. These cooler temperatures are perfect for growing certain types of grapes, which helps create unique wines.
