The library's story began in 1928. The Edgar Women's Club started it by getting books from the Wisconsin Traveling Library. In 1948, they began offering story times for young children. As the county library system grew, the village provided more space for the library. This allowed the public to have a larger library to enjoy.

In 1994, the former Edgar Bank building was remodeled for the library. This gave the community more books, computers, and space for family and children's events.
