Editus is a famous Costa Rican music group. The group includes Ricardo Ramírez, Edín Solís, and Carlos “Tapado” Vargas. Their music mixes different styles like jazz, new age, and classical music, creating a unique Latin American sound.
Editus traveled to over 30 countries in North America, Europe, and Latin America to perform. They played in famous places like Carnegie Hall in New York City, the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland. They also performed at the Auditorio Nacional and Plaza del Sócalo in Mexico City.
They have worked with many well-known artists such as León Gieco, Danilo Pérez, and Rubén Blades. In 2000, Editus won a Grammy Award with Rubén Blades for their song “Tiempos.” They also won awards for their album Mundo, in the categories “Best World Music Album” and “Best Tropical Contemporary Album.”
Editus has received important awards in Costa Rica. The newspaper “La Nación” gave them the “Ancora” award. The National Association of Authors and Musical Composers (ACAM) called them “The group with Best International Projection.” TELETICA named Editus the “Artist of the Year 2000,” and the newspaper “La República” gave them the “Personality of the Year” award.

Meet the Members
Ricardo Ramírez: The Violinist
Ricardo Ramírez was born in San José, Costa Rica, on November 11, 1967. He studied at the University of Costa Rica.
From 1983 to 1988, he was part of the Juvenile Symphonic Costa Rican Orchestra. He also performed as a soloist with the National Symphonic Orchestra in 1989.
Today, Ricardo plays in other groups like “Trio de Cuerdas” and “Akustic Ensamble.” He has also performed with many national artists in Costa Rica.
Edín Solís: The Guitarist
Edín Solís was born in Zarcero on November 22, 1963. He studied classical guitar at the University of Costa Rica Conservatory. He learned from famous guitar teachers from Argentina and Spain.
In 1991, he won a national guitar contest. After that, he toured countries like Spain, France, and Germany.
From 1985 to 1990, he toured with the group Cantoamérica. He also traveled to the United States and Guatemala. In 1991, he went to Europe for a solo tour, playing in cities like Paris and Bonn.
Carlos "Tapado" Vargas: The Percussionist
Carlos "Tapado" Vargas was born in San José, Costa Rica, on January 22, 1971. He graduated from the Castella Conservatory in 1987. He also studied with famous percussionist Giovanni Hidalgo.
He is a member of the National Symphonic Orchestra and the Juvenile Symphonic Orchestra of Costa Rica. Carlos has played with many different music groups, including Marfil and Malpaís. He has also performed with well-known musicians like Paquita D’Rivera.
