Eduardo's Professional Baseball Journey
Starting with the Chicago White Sox
Escobar first joined the Chicago White Sox in 2011. He played in nine games and got two hits. In 2012, he became a utility infielder, meaning he could play different positions in the infield. He played in 97 times at bat, hitting for a .207 average.
Time with the Minnesota Twins
In July 2012, Escobar was traded to the Minnesota Twins. He quickly made an impact. On April 3, 2013, he hit a special "walk-off" double. This hit won the game for the Twins against the Detroit Tigers! A few days later, he hit his very first home run against the Kansas City Royals.
Escobar played 66 games in 2013, hitting three home runs. In 2014, he played 133 games and hit six home runs. He continued to improve, hitting 12 home runs in 2015. In 2017, he had his best year yet with the Twins. He hit 21 home runs and had 73 RBIs, which were new personal records for him.
Joining the Arizona Diamondbacks
On July 27, 2018, Escobar was traded to the Arizona Diamondbacks. He was known for his great defense at third base. In October 2018, the Diamondbacks signed him to a three-year contract.
The 2019 season was amazing for Escobar. He hit 35 home runs and had 118 RBIs. He also led all of MLB with 10 triples that year! In 2021, he played so well that he was chosen for the 2021 Major League Baseball All-Star Game. This is a huge honor for a baseball player!
Playing for the Milwaukee Brewers
In July 2021, Escobar was traded again, this time to the Milwaukee Brewers. On October 2, 2021, he reached a big milestone: his 1,000th career hit!
Adventures with the New York Mets
On December 1, 2021, Escobar signed a two-year contract with the New York Mets. A very special moment happened on June 6, 2022. Escobar hit for the cycle in a game against the San Diego Padres. This means he hit a single, a double, a triple, and a home run all in the same game! It was the first time anyone had hit for the cycle at Petco Park.
Brief Stint with the Los Angeles Angels
In June 2023, the Mets traded Escobar to the Los Angeles Angels. He joined the team to help out when other players were injured. He played his first game with the Angels on June 24. He finished the 2023 season hitting .226 with six home runs. After the season, the Angels decided not to keep him, and he became a free agent.
Toronto Blue Jays
In February 2024, Escobar signed a minor league contract with the Toronto Blue Jays. However, he was released in March and did not make their main team.
Eduardo's Life Off the Field
Eduardo Escobar lives in Miami during the baseball offseason with his wife and five children. He has four sons and one daughter. In 2023, he became a citizen of the United States.
Escobar has a funny fear: he is afraid of cats! His teammates on the Diamondbacks used to prank him with a stuffed cat. This toy even became a good luck charm for the team!
Eduardo loves the Brazilian steakhouse restaurant called Fogo de Chão. He often takes his teammates and team staff there. He even joked that his power when hitting came from "a lot of Fogo de Chão." When he hit home runs, he would sometimes shout "Fogo power!" On the tenth anniversary of his first MLB game, the restaurant donated $10,000 to his charity.
