Eilean dà Mhèinn is a tiny island in Loch Crinan, Scotland. It's one of the many beautiful islands known as the Inner Hebrides. The island's name means "island of two mines," but it's not clear what kind of mines these were.
Where is Eilean dà Mhèinn?
This small island is found in Knapdale, a lovely area in Argyll and Bute. It sits about 100 meters (around 330 feet) west of the village of Crinan. When the tide is low, you can get even closer to the mainland!
What's on the Island?
Even though it's small, Eilean dà Mhèinn has a few interesting features.
- There's a special landing spot on the eastern side, which makes it easier to get onto the island.
- You can also see a building near the middle of the island.
- In 2011, a census showed that one person lived there.
The nearby Crinan harbour is very busy with boats. It has so many places to moor boats that it's hard to find a spot to anchor south or east of the island.
A Special Place in Scotland
Eilean dà Mhèinn is part of the Knapdale National Scenic Area. Scotland has 40 of these special areas, which are protected because of their amazing natural beauty. This means the island and its surroundings are kept safe for everyone to enjoy.
