What Makes El Carmolí Special?
El Carmolí is more than just a place on a map. It has a fascinating past and some cool natural features.
The Ancient Volcano
One of the most interesting things about El Carmolí is a hill that shares its name. This hill is actually an ancient volcano! It started erupting about seven million years ago. Imagine how old that is!
A Former Airfield
Long ago, El Carmolí was home to a military aerodrome. An aerodrome is like a small airport, mainly for planes. This one was built before the Spanish Civil War.
During the war, it was used by the Spanish Republican Air Force. They had a special school there called the Escuela de Vuelo de Alta Velocidad. This school trained pilots to fly fast fighter aircraft. Some of the teachers at this school were from the Soviet Union.
After the war ended, the airfield was still used by the Spanish Air Force. It became a place where planes could land in an emergency.
