Eleanor Grace Harvey (born January 14, 1995) is a Canadian fencer. She uses a type of sword called a foil. Eleanor has competed in the Olympic Games three times. She won a bronze medal in the individual foil event at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. Eleanor is also a champion at the Pan American Games and the Pan American Fencing Championships. She has won silver medals at the World Cadets and Juniors Fencing Championships and gold medals at the Pan American Junior Championships.

Early Life and Fencing Journey

Eleanor Harvey became interested in becoming an Olympian when she watched the 2000 Sydney Games. She first tried long-distance running. Then, at eight years old, she started training in karate. After two years, she learned that karate was not an Olympic sport at that time.

Eleanor then switched to fencing. A family friend heard a radio interview with Canadian fencer Sherraine Schalm. They suggested Eleanor try the sport, and she loved it!

Competing at the Olympics

Eleanor qualified to represent Canada at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio. She competed in the women's foil event. A big moment for her was defeating the world's number one fencer, Arianna Errigo. Eleanor reached the quarterfinals and finished in seventh place. This was the best finish for a Canadian fencer in Olympic history at that time.

Eleanor also represented Canada at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. She competed in the women's individual foil event. She made it to the round of 16. There, she was defeated by Lee Kiefer, who went on to win the gold medal. Eleanor also competed in the women's team foil event, where the Canadian team placed fifth.

At the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, Eleanor made history. She won Canada's first Olympic medal in fencing! She earned the bronze medal in the individual foil event. She won her bronze medal match against Alice Volpi. Eleanor also competed in the women's team foil event. The Canadian team finished in fourth place after losing the bronze medal match to Japan.
