Elijah Thurmon, born on August 2, 1978, is a former American football player. He was a talented wide receiver. He played in both the National Football League (NFL) and the Canadian Football League (CFL). He started his NFL journey as a free agent with the Philadelphia Eagles. Thurmon played college football at Howard University. He was later honored by being inducted into their Hall of Fame in 2016.

Early Life and College Football
Elijah Thurmon went to Meade High School. There, he was a multi-sport athlete. He played football, basketball, and ran track.
After high school, Thurmon attended Howard University. He was a very successful student-athlete. He earned the NCAA Academic All-American award. He also received the Howard University Excellence Award. He was recognized for his academic achievements in the MEAC. Thurmon was named a Unanimous All-American. He broke records at Howard and in the MEAC. These records were for total pass receiving yards and pass receptions.
Playing Professional Football
In the NFL
While at Howard University, Thurmon was considered one of the best wide receivers. He was signed by the Philadelphia Eagles as a free agent. This means he was not drafted but signed directly by the team.
The next season, he joined the Oakland Raiders. In 2003, the Chicago Bears signed him. They sent him to NFL Europe to play for the Berlin Thunder. He started ten games as a wide receiver for the Thunder. He led his team with 37 receptions for 412 yards. He also scored five touchdowns.
In the CFL
After his time in the NFL, Thurmon moved to the CFL. He joined the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 2004 as a free agent. In 2005, he had a great season. He made 88 receptions as a slotback. He gained 1,048 yards and scored seven touchdowns. Because of his excellent performance, he was chosen as a West Division All-Star.
Thurmon became a free agent again in 2006. He then signed with the Calgary Stampeders.
In 2007, the Montreal Alouettes signed Thurmon. He was named their offensive MVP for four of the 18 games that season.
Life After Football
In 2016, Elijah Thurmon was inducted into the Howard University Hall of Fame. This honor recognized his outstanding college football career.
