Elizabeth Scott, Duchess of Buccleuch (born May 29, 1743 – died November 21, 1827) was an important woman in British history. She was also known as Lady Elizabeth Montagu before she married. Elizabeth became the Duchess of Buccleuch when she married Henry Scott, 3rd Duke of Buccleuch.

Early Life and Family Connections

Elizabeth was born on May 29, 1743. She was the oldest daughter of George Montagu, 1st Duke of Montagu. Her mother was Lady Mary Montagu. Elizabeth was baptized at a church called St George's, Hanover Square in London.

Her family had important connections. Her great-grandparents on her mother's side were John Churchill, 1st Duke of Marlborough and Sarah Churchill. They were very famous figures in British history.

A Change in Family Titles

Elizabeth had a brother named John Montagu, Marquess of Monthermer. Sadly, he passed away in 1770 without marrying or having children. Because of this, a special family title, the barony of Montagu, was passed down to Elizabeth's children instead.

Marriage and Children

Elizabeth Montagu married Henry Scott, 3rd Duke of Buccleuch on May 2, 1767. Their wedding took place at Montagu House, Whitehall. Together, they had seven children.
