Elizabeth South is a suburb located north of Adelaide in South Australia. It's part of the City of Playford area.

This suburb was created in 1955. It was one of the first neighborhoods built for the new City of Elizabeth. Like other nearby areas, Elizabeth South was designed to be a local community. It had its own small shopping center with a supermarket, bank, and other stores.

Where is Elizabeth South Located?

Elizabeth South is bordered on its western side by the Gawler railway line. Across the railway line, you'll find land mostly used by the Australian Defence department. This includes the Defence Science and Technology Group building, which is right across from the Elizabeth South railway station.

The suburb is also split by Philip Highway. The northern part of Elizabeth South, which is north of Hogarth Road, is mainly a residential area. This means it has homes, schools, shops, and other community services for people living there.

Industrial Area of Elizabeth South

South of Hogarth Road, Elizabeth South becomes an industrial zone. This area is home to factories that make things for cars and for defence. A very famous factory here was the large Holden car factory. It opened in 1960 but closed down in 2017.

The Elizabeth South Water Tower

Near the railway line in Elizabeth South, there is a tall water tower. This tower stands about 44.2 meters high. Its tank can hold a huge amount of water, about 250,000 imperial gallons.

The water tower was built around 1940. This was even before the City of Elizabeth was planned. Its original purpose was to supply water to a factory that made ammunition. Today, that old factory area is used by the Defence Science and Technology Group.
