Elk Hill, also known as North Knob or Elk Mountain, is a cool mountain located in Herrick Township, Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania. It's a really special place because it's the highest point in all of eastern Pennsylvania, especially east of the Susquehanna River. It also stands tall as the highest peak on the Allegheny Plateau.
Elk Hill truly stands out from the land around it. This mountain actually has two main tops, like two big bumps! The highest point is called North Knob, which is about 2,693 feet (821 meters) high. The other peak is a bit lower and is known as South Knob, standing at about 2,602 feet (793 meters).
This mountain is also home to the popular Elk Mountain Ski Area. This ski resort is a fantastic spot for winter sports, offering a big vertical drop of 1,000 feet (305 meters) and 27 different ski trails for all skill levels!
