History of Elk Point
Long ago, in 1755, the British set up a trading post here. It was run by the Hudson's Bay Company. They chose this spot because there were many elk around. That's how Elk Point got its name! The town officially became a city in 1873.

Elk Point is also part of the larger Sioux City Metropolitan Area. This area includes parts of Iowa, Nebraska, and South Dakota.
