History of Ellsworth
Ellsworth was officially planned and laid out in 1880. This process is called "platting," which means creating a map of the land. The city was named to honor Elmer E. Ellsworth. He was a brave soldier from the Chicago Zouaves who was killed during the early days of the American Civil War.
