Elm Grove is a small, unincorporated community located in Wharton County, in the state of Texas. An unincorporated community means it's a place with a shared identity but no local government of its own.
This quiet area sits on Farm to Market Road 2614 (FM 2614). It's found just south of Eagle Lake, which is in Colorado County.
History of Elm Grove
Elm Grove is about 16 miles (26 km) northwest of the city of Wharton. In 1936, a map of the county showed that several homes were already in this area.
By the 1980s, Elm Grove still had a few businesses and houses. There was also a cemetery and a church, showing it was a small but established community.
Geography and Location
Elm Grove is situated on FM 2614. It's about 3.3 miles (5.3 km) west of Farm to Market Road 102 (FM 102) at a place called Bonus.
The Elm Grove Cemetery is located about 1.2 miles (1.9 km) north-northeast of FM 2614. You can find it by taking County Road 267. All the addresses in the Elm Grove area share the same ZIP code as Eagle Lake, which is 77434.
FM 2614 crosses into Colorado County a short distance to the west. The town of Garwood is also to the west of Elm Grove. The Colorado River flows nearby, further west of the community.
Education in Elm Grove
Back in 1912, Elm Grove had a school specifically for African-American children. This school was still operating in 1936.
Today, students in the Elm Grove community attend schools within the East Bernard Independent School District. This district serves several communities in the area.
