Elmira is a small community in Lane County, Oregon, in the United States. It's not a city with its own government, but it's a recognized place. You can find it west of Eugene and north of Veneta, close to Oregon Route 126. It's also near the Long Tom River and the Fern Ridge Reservoir, which is a large lake.

History of Elmira

Elmira wasn't always called Elmira! It used to be named "Duckworth." But in 1884, a local business owner convinced the postal service to change the name to "Elmira," like the town in California.

Around 1905, a family named the Faulhabers – Henry, Celia, and their children Leon, Neil, and Mildred – settled in the area. They lived around what was then called Elmira Road. Later, between 1905 and 1916, Henry Faulhaber gave that road back to the county. It was then renamed Faulhaber Road, honoring his family.
