Veneta's Story: How It Began
Veneta was started in 1912 by a man named Edmund Eugene Hunter. He named the new settlement after his five-year-old daughter, Veneta. The city's post office opened in 1914. Veneta Hunter Vincent, the person the city is named after, lived to be 91 years old. She even attended the city's 70th birthday party in 1982!
Since 1970, Veneta has been home to the yearly Oregon Country Fair. This event was first called the Renaissance Faire.
On August 27, 1972, the famous band Grateful Dead played a concert at the Oregon Country Fair site. This concert was the first "Field Trip" and helped raise money for Springfield Creamery. Many fans of the Grateful Dead, called Deadheads, remember this concert as a very special event. You can even see it in the film Sunshine Daydream. The city's name is also used for an album called Veneta, Oregon. This album was released in 2004 by the band New Riders of the Purple Sage. It's a live recording of their performance at the 1972 Field Trip concert.

City Services and Water
The city of Veneta gets its drinking water from three deep wells. In 2013, a new pipeline was built. This pipeline connects Veneta to the Eugene Water & Electric Board (EWEB). This allows Veneta to buy extra water from EWEB. The 10-mile (16 km) pipeline provides Veneta with an extra 200,000 gallons (757,082 L) of water each day. This means EWEB supplies about 20% of Veneta's water.
