History of Elmworth

The hamlet of Elmworth grew around the Elmworth School District 3791. This school was started in March 1919. It was named after Elmworth, New Brunswick, which was the home of an early settler named Franklin Brewer.

Early Buildings

Classes at Elmworth School first began in a log cabin that was borrowed. Later, a proper school building was constructed. On December 1, 1920, a post office opened in the Brewer family's home. In 1927, the Brewers decided to add a country store to their services. They built a new home, store, and post office across from the school. This new store also had the government telephone.

Community Growth

These two buildings, the school and the Brewer's store/post office, became the center of the Elmworth hamlet. Over time, more community buildings were added. The Elmworth Hall was built in 1947. A Community Church followed in 1948, and the Elmworth Cemetery was established soon after.
