History of Elton
Elton got its name from a book! A pioneer settler's wife, Mrs. J. M. Henderson, read about an English town called Elton and liked the name. This English town is in County Durham, near Middlesbrough.
Elton, Louisiana, became an official village in 1911. This means it was given legal recognition to govern itself.
Where is Elton?
Elton is in the northeast part of Jefferson Davis Parish. It shares a border with Allen Parish to the north.
A main road, U.S. Route 190, goes right through Elton. If you go east on this road, you'll reach Eunice in about 16 miles. If you go west, you'll get to Kinder in about 9 miles.
Jennings is the main town of Jefferson Davis Parish, where the parish government is located. It's about 26 miles south of Elton if you take Louisiana Highway 26.
