Elwood L. Robinson is an important American leader in education. He is currently the 13th Chancellor of Winston-Salem State University. A chancellor is like the main boss of a university. Before this, he was a top leader (Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs) at Cambridge College in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He is also a clinical psychologist.
Early Life and School Days
Elwood Robinson was born in Sampson County, North Carolina. He went to Union High School in Clinton, North Carolina. His family got their first telephone when he was a senior in high school.
He loved learning! In 1978, he graduated with high honors (magna cum laude) from North Carolina Central University. He earned a degree in psychology. He then got his master's degree in psychology from Fisk University in 1980. In 1986, he earned his doctorate degree in clinical psychology from Pennsylvania State University. From 1990 to 1993, he did special training at Duke University Medical Center.
Career in Education
Dr. Robinson spent over 20 years working at North Carolina Central University in Durham, North Carolina. He started there as a teacher in 1984. He became the head of the Psychology Department. Later, in 2006, he helped start and became the first Dean of the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences.
In 2012, he moved to Cambridge College in Massachusetts. There, he became the Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs. This is a very important job, helping to lead all the school's learning programs.
In January 2015, Dr. Robinson became the Chancellor of Winston-Salem State University. He is the 13th person to hold this important position.
Writer and Speaker
Dr. Robinson is also a very active writer and speaker. He has written many scientific papers and given many presentations. His short story, "Wednesdays and Sundays," was part of a book called Keeping the Faith. This book won an award in 2003.
He has traveled to places like China, Egypt, and South Africa. He shares his research about how health and behavior affect African Americans.
