Emilio Garcia (born 22 January 1981 in Tarragona, Spain) is a Spanish artist and business owner. He grew up in his hometown of El Vendrell and also in Barcelona. He is most famous for his "Jumping Brain" sculpture.

About Emilio Garcia

Emilio Garcia was born in January 1981 in Tarragona, Spain. He is well-known for his sculptures that look like brains. Emilio is very interested in how the human brain works and changes. He also loves popular culture, like movies and music.

He creates modern, eye-catching sculptures and paintings. These artworks often use bright colors. Emilio studied Graphic Design at Escola d'Art i Disseny de Tarragona. He finished his studies in 1999. While studying, he also worked at different cartoon animation studios in Barcelona. There, he helped draw and design for cartoons.

After 1999, Emilio worked as a freelance art director. This means he worked for many different companies without being a full-time employee. Some of these big companies included Berlitz Corporation, Hitachi, Diesel, Inditex, Metro, Vans, and The North Face. He was good at designing how people use websites and apps. His work was even shown in famous design books.

From Digital to Physical Art

Emilio noticed that our world was becoming very digital. He felt that people were losing touch with physical objects. Because of this, in 2008, he decided to leave his digital design career. He wanted to create things people could touch and hold.

He was fascinated by what he could create with plastic. So, he started a new path as a product designer, sculptor, and painter. He created his own brand called The Secret Lapo Laboratories, also known as Lapolab.

Famous Artworks and Products

Emilio's first big project was the "Jumping Brain." This sculpture is a mix of a brain and a frog. Emilio said he was inspired by "crazy and funny ideas that people had to go over the Berlin Wall."

He made the first "Jumping Brain" sculptures himself in small numbers. In 2008, it won first prize in the Plastic and Plush Toy Awards for Best Sculpting. In early 2009, he worked with the toy company Toy2R. They started making the "Jumping Brain" as a designer toy. This simple, detailed, and fun idea quickly became popular. It sold out very fast among collectors.

Larger versions of the "Jumping Brain" and ones made of bronze were shown at big art shows. These included "SCOPE Art Show 2011" and "Swab Barcelona Contemporary Art Fair 2012." It was also the main image for "MIA Art Fair 2012."

As Emilio's art grew, he kept exploring the human brain. He introduced the "Skull Brain" at "CONTEXT Art Miami 2012." A very large version was shown at "Pulse Miami 2013." He then started making all sorts of brain-themed items. These included designer toys, skateboards, clothes, and prints. He worked with famous brands like Disney and Chanel. He also collaborated with artists like Paul Frank and Mark Ryden.

Emilio's art has been shown in museums around the world. These include the "Musée des Beaux Arts" in Québec and the "International Museum of Surgical Science" in Chicago. He has created many other fun brain-based sculptures and paintings. Some of his newer works include the "Sponge Brain" and "Brain Heart." The "Brain Heart" was made for "Art Fair Tokyo 2016" and "Swab Barcelona Contemporary Art Fair 2016."
